Thank you for choosing Joyful Outdoors for your walk or event. Please ensure that you have read and agree to the following terms and conditions. By making a payment and booking, you are entering a binding contract with Elspeth Fimpel t/a Joyful Outdoors based on these terms and conditions.
ACCEPTANCE of these terms and conditions
- The lead person on any booking is responsible for ensuring that all members of their group have read and accepted these terms and conditions.
FORAGING disclaimer
- Your walk/course/event offers an introductory insight into wild foods available to you; how to identify them, distinguishing features, parts to use, preparation tips, recipe suggestions and common mistakes that could be made.
- No responsibility is taken by Elspeth Fimpel or Joyful Outdoors for participants' future foraging carried out after and away from the provider’s supervision. It is highly advisable that all future foraging should be done under the supervision of a suitable professional, or else at the risk of those choosing to carry out such activities.
- All materials supplied (images and written information) are meant as a guide only, and cannot be used as a substitute for professional on-site supervision. Only pick a plant if you are 100% certain of its identification and use.
- Whilst I will reference the historical medicinal uses of plants and trees where known, please note that I am not a medical herbalist or a nutritionist. Any scientific or traditional knowledge about plant medicine shared on this website or on my foraging walks and workshops is not intended as medical advice. Information provided is based on my personal research, education and experience and is provided to give you a starting point for your own research.
- Elspeth Fimpel t/a Joyful Outdoors is not liable for any direct or indirect, incidental or consequential damages to health and wellbeing which may result from information shared about plant medicine on our courses.
- It is important that you consult a qualified medical herbalist or doctor before self-medicating with wild plants.
- I do not teach edible mushrooms or fungi.
DETAILS of event
- I will send an email to the lead person on the booking approximately 4 days prior to the event, which will outline all details and what you should bring and wear. The lead person is responsible for sharing that information amongst the group and for ensuring that all members of the group come suitably dressed for the weather, season and event. At all events, you will need waterproofs, walking boots /wellies for your comfort and safety, and long sleeves and long trousers for woodland events. Closed footwear is essential for woodland events even in hot weather.
PARTICIPANT consent form
- All participants must complete and return a consent form and risk declaration prior to the workshop date. Please let me know about any mobility issues or medical conditions. Please confirm any eating restrictions, differentiating between preferences (eg vegetarian), intolerances (eg gluten intolerance) and serious allergies (eg peanut), and clearly stating if an allergy is potentially life-threatening.
LATENESS or delays
- If you know you are going to be late please make every effort to let me know (by mobile, NOT email) - 07780 608016.
- I will wait for up to 10 minutes for latecomers, subject to the agreement/needs of the other clients present.

- You are aware of and accept the potential risk of outdoor and wild food activities and acknowledge that every care is taken to avoid potential risks and injuries.
- You take full responsibility for your own well-being on walks and workshops and assume all risks, including acts of God, of injury, death, and/or loss to your person and/or property knowingly and voluntarily.
- Personal belongings are your responsibility. No liability is accepted by Joyful Outdoors for damage to any of your personal belongings unless it is due to my negligence.
- Any children in your group are your responsibility and must remain under your control.
- You will arrive prepared, including appropriate clothing and footwear, in the understanding that the event will go ahead in all weather, unless dangerous. See 'cancellation by me' section below.
CANCELLATION by you
- Any cancellation must be sent by email to elspeth@joyfuloutdoors.co.uk (not by phone or social media) quoting the event title, date and name on the booking.
- If you cancel or amend a booking with 14 days or more notice, I will provide a full refund less 10% to cover admin fees, or a voucher to the full value of your booking, please confirm in your email which you would prefer.
- If you cancel or amend a booking less than 14 days before date of the booked event or are a no-show on the day, Joyful Outdoors will not provide any refund, voucher or transfer the booking.
- If you cancel a private event booking within 28 days of the date of event, Joyful Outdoors will retain any deposit paid.
CANCELLATION by me
- Events will go ahead in all weather and will generally only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions (ie dangerously strong winds over 30mph, constant torrential rain, thunder/lightening, snow), or due to my illness. I will provide as much notice as possible in the days leading up to the event. Joyful Outdoors is not liable for any travel, accommodation or other costs you might incur if an event has to be cancelled. The decision by Joyful Outdoors to cancel an event for safety reasons is final.
- If I cancel an event, I will provide a full refund, or a voucher for the full value of your booking. If it is a private event booking, we can of course rearrange another date.
